Who is Carlynn Rainey-Crawford?

Great question! I’d love to tell you. I grew up in a small town located in the very northeast corner of Mississippi called Iuka. It borders Alabama and Tennessee. If you’re wondering, Iuka is pronounced just like it’s spelled. Growing up in a small town gifted me with a strong sense of faith, church, family and close knit community. I can vouch that no matter where you go in a small town, you can count on ‘going where everyone knows your name’! And it’s true that residents will likely know your business! But, hey, that’s just one of its endearing charms.

I attended Mississippi State University (#hailstate) and upon graduation, promptly moved to the big city of Houston, Texas. Culture shock is a serious understatement! Even after 18 years, I still struggle. Small town girl meets big city…you can take the girl out of the small town but you can’t take the small town out of the girl.

I share life with my husband, Jeff, and his two children, ages 25 and 21. We have 2 grandchildren now too! I am the mother of two furry children, Purrcy and Tootsie (cats). I enjoy cooking indulgent, southern cuisine. I especially love cooking for a crowd! Bringing people together with food is instilled in my southern roots. Don’t let the indulgent recipes fool you. I meal prep every Sunday all clean, healthful meals for the week. I’ve been meal prepping for years now and can break down calories into macros like a pro.

Cooking is not my only hobby. I really find connection to myself and others through writing. My best thinking can be done this way. I have also been a candle maker for 10 years now. Hobbies help me unwind from the corporate America job I have with one of the big oil and gas corporations in Houston. It’s my way of trying to de-stress and combat anxiety in this crazy, busy world.

I certainly don’t claim to have it figured out; rather, it’s a one day at a time journey. Some days are complete madness and some days are easier to figure out. I have a big heart and I’m always keeping my eye on the big picture…creating a less stressful more fulfilling life for myself and my loved ones. It’s all about exploring the extremes of experiences to figure out a better balance. I’m glad you’re here, I hope you will pull up a seat and stay awhile!
